A. A. Milne was an English writer best known for Winnie-the-Pooh and the children's poems in When We Were Very Young. Before the success of the Pooh books overshadowed his earlier work, Milne was mainly a playwright. He served as a lieutenant in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in the First World War and as a captain in the Home Guard in the Second. He wrote the first Pooh stories for his son Christopher Robin.
