Abhijit Banerjee is an Indian American economist who co-founded J-PAL, an MIT-based poverty research center that brings scientific evidence to policy. He shared the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer for their experimental approach to global poverty. He co-wrote Poor Economics and Good Economics for Hard Times with Duflo, the latter on immigration, inequality and climate change. He is the Lemann Foundation Professor in Economics at the University of Zurich.
