Aeschylus was an ancient Greek tragedian, often called the father of tragedy, who lived from about 525 to 456 BC. He is thought to have written 70 to 90 plays, and seven survive complete, among them the Oresteia, a trilogy that includes Agamemnon, and The Persians, which draws on the Persian invasion of Greece. His play Prometheus Bound, whose authorship is still debated, follows a titan chained to a rock for defying Zeus by giving fire to humanity.
