Ahdaf Soueif is an Egyptian novelist and political and cultural commentator, and the author of the novels A Map of the World and The Map of Love. A Map of the World is a work of literary and historical fiction that moves between an American journalist in the present day and her great-grandparents' romance in early twentieth-century Egypt. Soueif's fiction often turns on questions of culture and identity, and her commentary on politics and culture runs alongside that work.
