Al Franken is an American politician, comedian, screenwriter, and actor best known for his years as a writer and performer on Saturday Night Live. He served as a Democratic United States senator from Minnesota from 2009 until his resignation in 2018, after working as a liberal political activist and radio host. His books, including Lies (and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them), are satires that pick apart political spin and distortion on the American right.
