Alain Mabanckou is a novelist, poet, journalist and academic, born in the Republic of the Congo and now a French citizen. He is best known for novels and nonfiction about contemporary Africa and the African diaspora in France, including Broken Glass (2005) and Memoirs of a Porcupine (2006), which won the Prix Renaudot. He is also a professor of literature at UCLA. His other books include Black Moses, Blue White Red, Tomorrow I'll Be Twenty, and African Psycho, a novel about a petty car mechanic plotting murder.
