Albert Camus was a French philosopher, writer, and political activist, born in French Algeria in 1913 and died in 1960. His works include The Stranger, The Plague, and The Myth of Sisyphus, and he received the 1957 Nobel Prize in Literature. Other books under his name include the novels The Fall and A Happy Death, and the essay collections Create Dangerously and Committed Writings. He rejected the label existentialist throughout his life, though his views helped give rise to absurdism.
