Albert Wendt is a Samoan poet and writer who lives in New Zealand and is one of the most influential writers in Oceania. He is best known for Sons for the Return Home (1973) and Leaves of the Banyan Tree (1979), and his other books include Pouliuli, Ola and The Mango's Kiss. He taught at universities in Samoa, Fiji, Hawaii and New Zealand, and was professor of New Zealand literature at the University of Auckland from 1988 to 2008.
