Alberto Moravia

Alberto Moravia was the pen name of Alberto Pincherle, an Italian novelist and journalist who died in 1990. His novels, which took up modern sexuality, social alienation and existentialism, are best known through The Time of Indifference (1929), his debut, and The Conformist (1947), an anti-fascist novel that Bernardo Bertolucci later filmed. He also wrote The Lie, and from 1959 to 1962 he presided over PEN International, the worldwide association of writers.
