Algernon Blackwood (1869–1951) was an English journalist, novelist, short story writer and broadcasting narrator, and is counted among the most prolific ghost story writers in the history of the genre. His short story collection Incredible Adventures (1914) and his horror tales The Wendigo, set in the Canadian wilderness, and The Willows show his interest in the unseen. Born in England, he spent his early adult years in Canada and the United States before returning home, and his fascination with the supernatural and mysticism runs through his writing. He was a lifelong bachelor.
