Alice M. Roberts's books are nonfiction histories that read the past through what people left in the ground. Ancestors: A History of Britain in Seven Burials takes seven graves as starting points for the story of Britain from prehistory to the early medieval period, touching on migration, ritual and belief. Buried sits alongside it in cultural and ancient history.
