Amartya Sen is an Indian economist and philosopher who has taught in England and the United States since 1972. He is known for his work in welfare economics, which won him the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1998, and he is Thomas W. Lamont University Professor at Harvard. His books include The Argumentative Indian, a collection of essays on Indian history, culture and identity, and The Idea of Justice, a work of philosophy and political science. Sen also served as master of Trinity College, Cambridge, and was awarded the German Book Trade's Peace Prize in 2020.
