André Aciman is an Italian-American writer, born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, who is a distinguished professor at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where he teaches the works of Marcel Proust. He is best known for the novel Call Me by Your Name, which won the 2008 Lambda Literary Award for Gay Fiction and was made into a film, and his 1995 memoir Out of Egypt won a Whiting Award. Enigma Variations is another of his novels, and Aciman has said he considers Eight White Nights his best book.
