Anne Thackeray Ritchie, born Anne Isabella Thackeray and later Lady Ritchie, was an English writer and the eldest daughter of William Makepeace Thackeray. Her novels, including Old Kensington and The Village on the Cliff, were appreciated in her own time and placed her at the center of the late Victorian literary scene. She is remembered as the keeper of her father's literary legacy and for fairy-tale stories set in Victorian life, such as her retelling of Bluebeard. Her 1885 novel Mrs. Dymond also introduced an old proverb about fish into English.
