Antony Beevor is a British military historian whose books cover mainly the Second World War, the Spanish Civil War and, more recently, the Russian Revolution and Civil War. His best-known works are Stalingrad (1998) and Berlin: The Downfall 1945 (2002), which follow the battles between the Soviet Union and Germany through the experiences of ordinary people. He commanded a tank troop in the 11th Hussars before leaving the British Army in 1970 to write, and his other titles include Crete, Arnhem and D-Day.
