Arna Bontemps was an American poet, novelist and librarian and a member of the Harlem Renaissance. Bontemps wrote Black Thunder, a historical novel about Gabriel Prosser and a planned uprising in 1800 Virginia, and God Sends Sunday, a coming-of-age story. Bontemps died in 1973.
