Arundhati Roy is an Indian author best known for The God of Small Things (1997), which won the Booker Prize for Fiction that same year. She is also a political activist working on human rights and environmental causes, and her nonfiction, including Capitalism: A Ghost Story, takes up those concerns directly. Her other fiction includes The Ministry of Utmost Happiness, and in 2024 she won the PEN Pinter Prize, sharing it with the imprisoned writer Alaa Abd El-Fattah.
