Astrid Lindgren was a Swedish writer of fiction and screenplays, best known for her children's book series about Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga, and Karlsson-on-the-Roof. She also wrote fantasy novels such as Mio, My Son and Ronia, the Robber's Daughter, and worked on the children's list at the Rabén & Sjögren publishing house in Stockholm. In 1994 she received the Right Livelihood Award for her work on children's rights and their individuality. She died in 2002.
