Edward Irving Worti, better known as Avi, is an American writer of young adult and children's fiction, born in December 1937. Among the books published under the name Avi are The Cross of Lead, a medieval adventure about a boy named Crispin who is hunted as an outlaw and must flee his village, and The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, a coming-of-age adventure. The Cross of Lead opens the Crispin series.
