Barbara Comyns

Barbara Comyns, born Barbara Bayley in 1907 and died in 1992, was an English writer and artist. Comyns wrote fiction that mixes ordinary domestic life with strange, uncanny turns, as in The Vet's Daughter, Our Spoons Came from Woolworths, and Who Was Changed and Who Was Dead. Juniper Tree takes a Brothers Grimm fairy tale into twentieth-century Britain, following a young mother who has fled cruelty and is trying to build a steady life for herself and her daughter.
