Ben Mikaelsen is a Bolivian American writer of children's literature, and his best-known book is Touching Spirit Bear, the first in the Spirit Bear series. In it, a troubled teen is sent to a remote Alaskan island as an alternative to jail. Mikaelsen also wrote the sequel Ghost of Spirit Bear and the novel Petey.
