Bill Bryson is an American journalist and author of nonfiction on travel, the English language and science, and he was naturalized as a British citizen in 2014 after living in Britain for most of his adult life. He is best known for Notes from a Small Island, his 1995 exploration of Britain, and A Short History of Nearly Everything, from 2003, a survey of science from the Big Bang onward. Bryson has sold over 16 million books worldwide, and he retired from writing books in October 2020. He also served as chancellor of Durham University from 2005 to 2011.
