Bret Easton Ellis

Bret Easton Ellis is an American novelist and screenwriter, best known for American Psycho (1991), his most successful novel, which follows a Wall Street banker whose polished life hides violence. His first novel, Less than Zero (1985), was published when he was 21, and his later novels grow more metafictional, as in the pseudo-memoir Lunar Park (2005). His fictionalized memoir The Shards (2023) looks back at his final year of high school in Los Angeles in 1981.
