Bryan Stevenson is an American lawyer and law professor at New York University School of Law, and he founded the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama. He writes about a criminal justice system that often fails the poor and people of color, most notably in Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, his 2014 memoir about defending Walter McMillian, who was unjustly sentenced to death. A young adult adaptation, also called Just Mercy, brings those cases to younger readers.
