Charles C. Mann is an American journalist and author who specializes in scientific topics. He is best known for 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus, which argues that the Americas before 1492 held large, carefully shaped societies rather than empty wilderness, and which won the National Academies Communication Award for best book of 2006. He also wrote 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created. Mann contributes as an editor to Science, The Atlantic Monthly, and Wired.
