Chris Abani is a Nigerian American author whose fiction includes the novels GraceLand and Becoming Abigail. He says he belongs to a newer generation of Nigerian writers who aim to show English-speaking readers what it is like to grow up in Nigeria. Becoming Abigail, a coming-of-age story, follows a teenage girl who leaves Lagos for London, and the book keeps returning to the losses she carries from home.
