Chris Crutcher is an American novelist and family therapist, born in 1946, who writes contemporary fiction for teenagers. His titles include Running Loose, Whale Talk, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, and the short story collection Athletic Shorts: Six Short Stories. In 2000 the American Library Association gave Crutcher the Margaret A. Edwards Award for a lifetime of writing for teens.
