Cornelius Ryan was an Irish-born journalist and historian best known for his books on the Second World War. He wrote The Longest Day about D-Day, The Last Battle, and A Bridge Too Far, which covers the 1944 Allied operation at Arnhem. Born and raised in Dublin, he began working as a journalist in London in 1940 and later settled in the United States, becoming a citizen in 1951. He died in 1974.
