D. H. Lawrence was an English novelist, poet, and playwright, known for four of his most famous novels: Sons and Lovers, The Rainbow, Women in Love, and Lady Chatterley's Lover, all of which faced censorship trials. The Rainbow and Women in Love form the Brangwen Family pair, and he also wrote travel books, essays, and literary criticism, and painted. He spent much of his life in voluntary exile and died in 1930, and E. M. Forster and F. R. Leavis later defended his work.
