Danilo Kiš

Danilo Kiš was a Yugoslav and Serbian novelist, short story writer, essayist and translator, born in 1935 and died in 1989. He wrote Hourglass and The Encyclopedia of the Dead, which are among his best known works, along with Garden, Ashes. A Tomb for Boris Davidovich collects seven linked stories about revolutionaries in Eastern Europe whose causes end up consuming them, and Kiš treats the moral price of that commitment with a sharp, observant eye.
