Dante Alighieri

Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet, writer and philosopher who lived from about 1265 to 1321. He was best known for The Divine Comedy, whose parts Inferno and Paradiso took readers through Hell and Heaven, and he wrote it in his native Tuscan rather than Latin. He also wrote Vita Nuova, or The New Life, and English writers including Chaucer, Milton and Tennyson were influenced by him.
