Darlene Clark Hine is the name on two American history books. Her African Americans: A Concise History, Combined Volume, written with William C. Hine and Stanley Harrold, follows Black American life from the Atlantic world into the early twenty-first century, covering slavery, emancipation, segregation, and the civil rights movement. The African American Odyssey, Volume 1: To 1877 covers the earlier stretch of that story, ending with the close of Reconstruction.
