David Gemmell

David Gemmell was a British author of heroic fantasy, best known for his debut novel, Legend. A former journalist and newspaper editor, he had his first work of fiction published in 1984 and went on to write over thirty novels, including the Troy books and the Rigante series. His stories look squarely at violence while exploring honour, loyalty and redemption, and his heroes are nearly always flawed in some way. With over one million copies sold, his work continued to sell worldwide until his death in 2006.
