David McCullough was an American popular historian who wrote about the nation's past, from The Johnstown Flood, his first book in 1968, to 1776, John Adams, and The Path Between the Seas. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, he earned a bachelor's degree in English literature at Yale. He won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award twice each, with Truman and John Adams among his Pulitzer winners, and he hosted PBS's American Experience for twelve years. He died in 2022.
