Donald Knuth is an American computer scientist and mathematician and professor emeritus at Stanford University, best known for The Art of Computer Programming, a multi-volume work on algorithms. He received the 1974 ACM Turing Award and has been called the father of the analysis of algorithms. Born in 1938, he also created the TeX typesetting system, and with Ronald L. Graham and Oren Patashnik he wrote Concrete Mathematics, a guide to the mathematics behind programming and algorithm analysis.
