Douglas Coupland is a Canadian visual artist and writer, trained first as a sculptor, whose novel Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture (1991) popularized the terms Generation X and McJob. His fiction includes Microserfs, JPod, Hey Nostradamus!, and Girlfriend in a Coma, along with the short story collection Life After God. Alongside the novels he keeps up a visual art practice of sculpture and painting, and he has written columns for periodicals including the New York Times and The Guardian.
