E.M. Forster was an English novelist, short story writer and essayist, best known for A Room with a View, Howards End and A Passage to India. His novels often examine class differences and hypocrisy, and his short story The Machine Stops is often seen as the start of technological dystopian fiction. His novel Maurice, a tale of love between men in early twentieth-century England, was completed in 1914 but not published until 1971, the year after he died.
