Elisabeth Elliot was an American Christian missionary, author, and speaker who wrote over 20 books after returning to the United States. Her first husband, Jim Elliot, was killed in 1956 while trying to reach the Waorani people of eastern Ecuador, and she later spent two years as a missionary to the tribe members who had killed him. Her books include Through Gates of Splendor, a work of history and biography, and Passion and Purity, a guide to Christian romance and singleness. She died in 2015.
