Elizabeth Strout is an American novelist known for literary fiction built on close, precise portraits of ordinary lives. Her best-known book is Olive Kitteridge, which won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and was followed by Olive, Again. Several of her novels are set in the fictional town of Shirley Falls, Maine, drawing on the Portland of her youth, and the Lucy Barton novels, beginning with My Name Is Lucy Barton, follow a character who grew up in that world. Her most recent novel is The Things We Never Say.
