Emily Dickinson was an American poet from Amherst, Massachusetts, who wrote nearly 1,800 poems but saw only ten published during her lifetime. Her verse, which deals mostly with nature and mortality, is built on short, sharp lines and slant rhyme. Much of it reached print only after her death, when Thomas H. Johnson compiled The Poems of Emily Dickinson in 1955. Her books include Selected Poems and The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson.
