Esther Duflo is a French-American economist and the Lemann Foundation Professor in Economics at the University of Zurich. She shared the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kremer for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty, and she co-founded the MIT-based Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab. With Banerjee she wrote Poor Economics, published in 2011, and Good Economics for Hard Times, published in 2019.
