Fernando Pessoa

Fernando Pessoa was a Portuguese poet, writer, literary critic, translator, and publisher who also wrote in and translated from English and French. Among his books are The Book of Disquiet, a fragmented diary attributed to Bernardo Soares, a bookkeeper in Lisbon, and I Have More Souls Than One. Writing under his own name and about seventy-five other invented names, he gave his most important of these, Alberto Caeiro, Álvaro de Campos, and Ricardo Reis, the term heteronyms rather than pseudonyms. He died in 1935.
