Founding Fathers is the name for the late-eighteenth-century American revolutionary leaders who united the Thirteen Colonies, oversaw the War of Independence and framed the government of the new nation. Many of them wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution, and the books published under this name center on that last document. George Washington, the nation's first president, is the figure most identified as Father of the United States.
