Frances Hodgson Burnett

Frances Hodgson Burnett was a British-American novelist and playwright, best known for three children's novels: Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Little Princess, and The Secret Garden. Born in Cheetham, Manchester, she moved with her family to Tennessee as a teenager and began publishing stories in magazines there to help support them. Her adult novels of the 1890s were also popular, and she helped produce stage versions of Little Lord Fauntleroy and A Little Princess. Burnett died in 1924 in Nassau County, New York.
