George Bernard Shaw was an Irish playwright, critic and political activist who wrote more than sixty plays, best known for Man and Superman, Pygmalion and Saint Joan. Born in Dublin, he moved to London in 1876 and became the leading dramatist of his generation, earning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925. He wrote the screenplay for the 1938 film of Pygmalion, which earned him an Academy Award. Shaw died in 1950, aged 94.
