Georgette Heyer (1902–1974) was an English novelist and short-story writer who worked in Regency romance and detective fiction, starting with The Black Moth in 1921. She essentially established the historical romance genre and its Regency subgenre, drawing on Jane Austen and keeping detailed notes on period life. Her historical novels include Venetia, Frederica and These Old Shades, and her detective fiction includes No Wind of Blame, the first Inspector Hemingway mystery. Her last book, My Lord John, was published after her death in 1974.
