Georgi Gospodinov

Georgi Gospodinov is a Bulgarian writer, poet and playwright whose fiction often folds poetry and irony into complex stories about Eastern Europe's recent past and the anxieties of the present. His novel Time Shelter won the 2023 International Booker Prize, shared with translator Angela Rodel, and also the Strega European Prize, while The Physics of Sorrow earned the Jan Michalski Prize and the Angelus Award. Gospodinov's other novel, Natural Novel, follows a man whose marriage is coming apart, with memory and unspoken feeling carrying much of the story.
