Greg Mortenson is an American writer and former mountaineer, and the founder of the educational charity Pennies for Peace. He is best known for Three Cups of Tea, a New York Times bestseller he co-wrote with David Oliver Relin about one man's mission to promote peace one school at a time. He also wrote Stones into Schools: Promoting Peace with Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and co-founded the Central Asia Institute. His work has drawn criticism over financial handling and the accuracy of his books, and in 2012 he repaid $1 million to the Central Asia Institute after an inquiry by the Montana Attorney General.
