H. G. Wells was an English writer, best known for science fiction such as The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, and The War of the Worlds, which imagined time travel, invisibility, and alien invasion. He also wrote social novels about lower-middle-class English life, including Kipps and The History of Mr Polly, along with non-fiction on politics, history, and social questions. Wells died in 1946, and his output included more than forty novels and dozens of short stories.
