Hannah Arendt was a German and American historian and philosopher, and one of the most influential political theorists of the twentieth century. She was best known for writing on totalitarianism, power, evil, and politics, in books such as The Origins of Totalitarianism and The Human Condition, and for the phrase "the banality of evil," which grew out of her writing on the trial of Adolf Eichmann. Her last work, The Life of the Mind, was left unfinished when she died suddenly in 1975.
